At Bauhaus Salon + Spa, community isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we actively cultivate. This season, we’re honored to support Food for Thought SWLA, a local nonprofit feeding food-insecure children throughout Southwest Louisiana. Their mission is both simple and profound: ensuring that children in our community have reliable access to nutritious food every week, long after school cafeterias close for the weekend.
You can learn more about their work at https://www.swlafoodforthought.org/.
As part of our commitment to giving back, we’re launching our food drive initiative and inviting clients, neighbors, and friends to join us in supporting children right here at home.
Why This Food Drive Matters
Food for Thought distributes roughly 1,200 weekend meal bags every week, each costing around $5 to fill. For many children, these bags are the difference between going hungry and having something dependable to eat on Saturdays and Sundays.
The need is constant. The impact is immediate. And every contribution—big or small—helps close the gap.
This effort resonates deeply with many on our team. As Roxy Lincecum shared, “For our team, this food drive isn’t just a project—it’s a reminder that small acts ripple out in ways we may never see. Not every child in Southwest Louisiana has the security of regular meals, and it breaks our hearts to think of any kid going without. If filling a bag helps even one child feel cared for, then every donation is worth it.”
Her words capture why this initiative matters so much—not only to the children receiving the bags but to those of us who believe in lifting our community however we can.
What We’re Collecting for the food drive
Food for Thought has identified three items they need most right now:
-
Instant oatmeal packets

One box of oatmeal can feed breakfast to 30 children, and it’s lightweight and easy to pack—small cost, big impact. -
Granola bars

A small snack goes a long way. A $2.59 box of granola bars can help keep local kids fed over the holiday break. -
Ramen noodle packs

Ramen packs cost just cents, are lightweight and easy to pack, and make a big difference for kids who need simple meals over the holiday break.
These lightweight, shelf-stable items help volunteers create meal bags quickly and efficiently, ensuring children receive consistent support each week.
Donations can be brought to:

Whether it’s a single box of granola bars or a grocery bag full of lightweight, concealable/discrete non-perishable food items, every donation directly supports a child in Southwest Louisiana.
A Community Effort, Together
At the heart of this initiative is the belief that communities thrive when people show up for one another. This is a message we hear echoed throughout Southwest Louisiana and among our own team.
As Sarah Kennison puts it, “Southwest Louisiana shows up for its own, and this is another chance for us to do exactly that. Food for Thought is meeting a real need right here in our backyard. When the community comes together—even in simple ways—we make life better for the families around us. Our team is proud that Bauhaus Salon + Spa can help bring people together for something that strengthens our whole region.”
Understanding Food for Thought’s Impact
Food for Thought operates with a mission rooted deeply in serving local children. They focus entirely on providing weekend food support, ensuring that hunger does not follow students home once the school week ends. Their process is efficient and community-driven:
-
Volunteers pack small bags of lightweight, easy-to-prepare items that fit discreetly inside a child’s backpack, making weekend meal bags simple to distribute and easy for kids to manage.
-
Schools help distribute bags to children who need them.
-
Donations offset weekly costs and allow the program to expand.
Their website, https://www.swlafoodforthought.org/, outlines the full scope of their impact and the number of children served each week. When you donate, you become a direct part of that story.
How Your Donation Helps
Our initiative makes it easy for anyone to contribute. Each donation directly adds to the weekend bags Food for Thought distributes weekly.
-
Instant oatmeal gives a child a warm, filling breakfast.
-
Granola bars offer simple, portable nourishment.
-
Ramen provides comfort and calories during long weekends and holidays.
These items may feel small, but their impact is significant. A single donation can help ease worry for a child who doesn’t always know when their next meal will come.
How You Can Get Involved
Supporting the food drive is simple:
-
Pick up instant oatmeal, granola bars, or ramen during your next grocery trip.
-
Drop items off at Bauhaus Salon + Spa anytime during salon hours.
-

The more people who participate, the more children we can collectively reach.
A Commitment Beyond the Salon
At Bauhaus Salon + Spa, our mission extends far beyond hair and skincare. We believe in making our community stronger, healthier, and more connected. Supporting this food drive is a natural extension of that mission and a reflection of the values shared by our entire team.
We’ll continue updating our community with donation progress and milestones. Every bag filled represents hope, care, and the power of neighbors helping neighbors.
Thank you for standing with us to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children throughout Southwest Louisiana.
